This photograph, taken on April 22, 2000, shows Cuban refugee Elián González and Donato Dalrymple, one of the two men who rescued the boy from the sea, in a bedroom closet as federal agents enter the Little Havana home of Elian's relatives. The photograph by Alan Diaz of the Associated Press is the winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography, awarded by Columbia University on the recommendation of The Pulitzer Prize Board.

The picture and the news coverage back those days made me view the entire situation from the wrong angle. When I returned to Germany I got to see another truth to it.
